During the 2019 free agency period, the Orlando Magic are reportedly going to aggressively try and sign a new point guard for the future, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders.
The Magic have been using D.J. Augustin and Jerian Grant this season.
While Augustin is a solid veteran who can run an offense well and hit open shots, the Magic appear to be looking for a franchise point guard who can lead them to the playoffs alongside Aaron Gordon, Mo Bamba and Jonathan Isaac.
Jerian Grant, meanwhile, has career backup written all over him and hasn't been impressive in Orlando.
Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell and Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier have been linked to the Magic in the past. Both players will become restricted free agents in the offseason if their respective teams give them qualifying offers.
The Nets signed Russell's backup, Spencer Dinwiddie, to a long term deal, so Brooklyn could move on from Russell. Kyrie Irving is expected to re-sign with the Celtics, and Rozier has been very open about how he wants to start in the NBA instead of coming off the bench.
Charlotte Hornets All-Star Kemba Walker will become a free agent this summer as well. However, Walker might want to join an immediate contender since he's been losing with the Hornets for a while now.
It will be interesting to see who the Magic decide to pursue in 2019.
