A man from New York was recently arrested by police after being charged with aggravated harassment for allegedly sending a death threat to NBA President Adam Silver in July of 2017, as per Ben Feurherd of the New York Post.

David Pyant, a 27-year-old originating from South America, allegedly sent an email to Silver threatening to kill him using his gun. Although the reason behind his threat remain uncertain, police sources confirmed that Pyant previously served time behind bars for a robbery rap and currently has a total of 13 priors.

This news comes in the wake of the highly-publicized Twitter spat involving Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and comedian Andrew Polk, in which the latter’s Tweet were considered by many as an outright death threat towards the three-time All-Star and two-time NBA Champion. Thankfully the incident was quickly deescalated and no arrests had to be handed out.

Basketball is a very emotional sport and the competitive nature of the contest can at times get out of hand. Sometimes fans get carried away and do some really stupid things at the heat of the moment. This is, however, no excuse to threaten the life of a fellow human being or to put his security or that of his family in jeopardy.

At the end of the day this is just basketball. No life is worth losing over this game that we all love.

Here is to hoping that Adam Silver, as well as NBA people in general, have to deal with these kinds of things less moving forward.
