Man City lacked the end product on Sunday, suffering a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in their Premier League opener. After the match, Pep Guardiola spoke out on his team’s performance and gave his take on Jack Grealish, who was making his league debut for the club after a record-breaking move from Aston Villa.

Via Goal:

“He has incredible continuity, he is so dangerous close to the box, when we have the ball he always has an extra pass,” the Man City boss said.

“He got three or four fouls in the first minutes and immediately he woke up and showed. He has incredible continuity, he is so dangerous close to the box, when we have the ball he always has an extra pass.

“He had an incredible game and incredible debut and will be so important for us. I congratulate him for having the personality to try and try until the end.”

Man City struggled to break through the Spurs backline, but Grealish did have some promising moments. He was dangerous down the left flank and within just minutes of the first half, the 25-year-old drew a foul right on the edge of the box. City botched the set-piece, but it showed what he’s capable of when he gets into the final third with his technicality and strength on the ball.

While the Citizens were missing Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden to injuries, it was still a dismal start to their campaign as Man City look to repeat as Premier League champions. Nonetheless, Guardiola is pleased with Jack Grealish as he looks to lock down a spot in the starting XI next weekend against newly-promoted Norwich City.
