Reports of a man raiding a dinner event at Sacramento High School just to confront Mayor Kevin Johnson didn't take long to spread.

Sean Thompson walked up to Johnson and hit him in the face with a coconut cream pie with no provocation, and only for it to end with him having a black eye and being arrested.

Felony assault charges are in order for Thompson, but why would he risk his freedom and attempt such a stunt knowing it wouldn't end well?

The Sacramento Bee spoke with Thompson to let him explain why he decided to hit the Mayor in the face with a pie.

He had a lot of opportunities to help people and he hasn’t taken any of them.

Pie throwing was the least violent action I could take.

He seemed like a really great guy. He struck me as a real humanitarian, one who wanted to help people.

He never helped people, or invested in programs to the degree he said he would do.

He's mostly spoken about the arena (The Golden 1 Center) and his strong mayoral initiative.

I felt the pressure to do something that I thought would at least symbolize and embarrass him in a public situation.

I still stand by what I did, and I still think it was a very appropriate response to a politician that acts like Kevin Johnson has acted.

Thompson who has been arrested three times as a member of the Occupy Sacramento movement still feels strongly about his message, and he chose to do what he did to draw attention to his message.

Johnson is coming to the end of his mayoral term, and it's highly doubtful that a pie to the face will change any policies in the state capitol.
