One of the biggest storylines of this summer transfer window is the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Manchester United star has made it clear he'd like to leave Old Trafford in search of Champions League football, but Chelsea, PSG, and Bayern have already turned down the chance to sign the Portuguese international.

Last week, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag made it clear he wants Ronaldo to stay at the club. On Monday, he doubled down on his desire to work with the striker this season and potentially beyond.

Via Fabrizio Romano:

“Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale. I planned with him, and I’m looking forward to working with him. The situation is still the same. I am well informed – he also has an option for a further season.”

“Ronaldo could stay beyond this season? Yes”, he added.

Ronaldo is a regular in Europe's most prized competition. With Man United in Europa, he'd miss the opportunity to shine in the UCL. Nevertheless, ten Hag is adamant that his talisman is not for sale.

It's a rather interesting situation but we know the type of competitor Cristiano Ronaldo is. He wants to play at the highest level imaginable. Because of his salary demands, these other European giants haven't been willing to fork out the cash. Atletico is now emerging as a possible suitor for Ronaldo. That wouldn't go over well with Real Madrid supporters, though.

United has enjoyed a rather productive transfer window thus far. ten Hag just reunited with Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez while also bringing in Christian Eriksen, who briefly played at Brentford last term after his scary collapse at Euro 2020. They're also closing in on signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo staying at the Theater of Dreams would be massive for the club's attack considering he was their leading scorer in 2021-22 and evidently, ten Hag wants to work with him. We'll see what happens.
