Manchester United's latest draw against Southampton marks three consecutive matches since the Red Devils' last win. With their most recent victory coming against West Ham on Jan. 22, United has since tied three straight games against Middlesbrough, Burnley, and Southampton. Amid their woes, calls for Harry Maguire to lose his place as Manchester United captain have sounded from angry supporters, as the central defender has been lackluster throughout the season. Manager Ralf Rangnick came to his defender's aid on Monday, declaring that he has no intentions of stripping Maguire of the captaincy, via Fabrizio Romano.

“Maguire is our captain and I don't see any reason to change that,” Rangnick said. “He is also a player who has to develop and get better like all the other players.”

Manchester United is currently fifth in the Premier League, performing well below expectations. The club has 40 points through its first 24 matches, having scored 38 goals and conceded 32. The leaky defense has been a key issue for the team. David De Gea, who has been phenomenal, has just five clean sheets under his belt as a result of the porous nature of the defenders playing ahead of him. Maguire's struggles have been put on display on a near-weekly basis for United fans to see, but Rangnick is showing no intentions of making significant changes such as a captaincy change at this stage of the season.

Maguire has featured in 20 matches this season, starting 19. He has zero goals and zero assists in the Premier League this year. Manchester United will look to turn things around with a win on Tuesday against Brighton, though based on their recent results, they'll have to turn in an improved performance to earn a victory.
