The Las Vegas Raiders fell flat in overtime to lose the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night, but the quarterback play from Marcus Mariota may have proved that the Raiders may need to go another direction with their quarterback’s style.

On the daily Locked On NFL podcast, Bo Brack and Your Boy Q discussed the game from Thursday night:

Q: You know, I like the different options when his athleticism opens up. Look, I am a guy that during the offseason and leading up to the NFL Draft, I was saying that the Raiders should go draft Jalen Hurts for that exact reason. I wanted him to sit behind Derek Carr and kind of learn and still be that athlete, you know, and have that ability to move with his legs and also use his arm.

I really enjoyed what I saw from Marcus Mariota. A lot of people are saying on social media that Derrek Carr got Wally Pipp'd and that will be the last time he ever plays in a Raiders uniform again or the last time he takes the field in a Raiders uniform again. I’m not willing to go on that kind of a limb and put that out there because Marcus Mariota still has his own warts out there, but he did show what a guy with a little bit of athleticism could do in that offense and I prefer that kind of quarterback.

I am not trying to put Derek Carr out by the wayside, I am not trying to take him out back and shoot him, none of that stuff. I am not trying to do any of that stuff. I think he is a good quarterback, and he has earned the right to continue to play but moving forward, I think the Raiders should start thinking about a guy like that behind Carr to groom for the future.
