The Seattle Mariners recently lost first baseman Ty France to an injury and have immediately gone out and found some much-needed help in the meantime.

Per Jeff Passan, the Mariners just traded for former All-Star Carlos Santana from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for a couple of relievers:

Santana is hitting just .216 with four homers this season for KC. However, he's extremely hot right now. The first baseman is batting .357 in the month of June with five doubles, two long balls, and 11 RBI. Santana was previously traded to the Mariners back in 2018 in the J.P. Crawford deal but never appeared in a game for the team and was shipped back to Cleveland just 10 days later.

Santana spent most of his big league career with the Guardians, hitting .281 with 34 bombs in that 2019 campaign where he made the ASG. He's struggled since to find his previous brilliance, but perhaps a change of scenery could make a difference.

France, who has been Seattle's best hitter this season, went on the 10-day IL recently with a forearm issue. Santana should immediately slot into the starting spot for the time being until France is healthy again. The Mariners‘ offense ranks 24th in average and 25th in runs per game therefore they could certainly use a veteran presence who is raking at the moment.
