Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has come out to defend his earlier message pertaining to the development of youth basketball in the country. The 60-year-old billionaire has been called out for his statement, which is considered by some to be downright racist.

In an earlier remark, Cuban shared his thoughts on how he believes the AAU is doing more harm than good in terms of developing the culture of basketball among America's youth.

A number of people were unhappy with Cuban's statement, and they took to Twitter to criticize the Mavs owner for his allegedly offensive remarks.

However, Mark Cuban would have none of it, and quickly responded. According to the business tycoon, he was simply stating his opinion based on his own personal experience as a team owner.

This is certainly a hot topic, and has proven to be a very polarizing issue. However, what Cuban wants to clarify is that he was not being racist with his statement, and that his criticism was focused solely on the AAU.

In his original statement, Cuban specifically identified Slovenia as a country that in his mind, has a much better youth basketball program than the United States. Luka Doncic, the Mavs' prized rookie, hails from Slovenia, and based on how advanced the 19-year-old is for his age seems to prove Cuban's point here.

Then again, Doncic is a once-in-a-generation type of player. That being said, Slovenia's basketball program can't exactly take full credit for a player that is currently looking like a future Hall of Famer.
