In a much-anticipated move, the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday re-signed Dirk Nowitzki to a two-year contract worth $10 million.

Following the move, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban voiced his desire for Nowitzki to play beyond his 20th year in the league, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype.

The 39-year-old currently possesses a player option for the second year of the deal, which leaves the door open for him possibly retiring after next season. He has continued to state that he will take his decision on his NBA career year-by-year, which means it could be dependent on how he feels both mentally and physically at that point in time.

That said, Nowitzki did state last week when he accepted the Teammate of the Year award at the NBA Awards show that he hopes to play a “couple more years.” Although this is still quite vague, it does show that he is considering playing more than just next season.

Although his production continued to demonstrate a steady decline last season, he is still able to make an impact on the game averaging 14.2 points on 43.7 percent shooting from the field and 37.8 percent from beyond the arc with 6.5 rebounds per contest. Ultimately, it's something that Nowitzki won't come to a final decision on until next summer.
