Marvel's Eternals Final Trailer

The Eternals villain origin

Kro is the leader of the Deviants and the force that wants to age war on the other creations of the Celestials. In the comics, Kro is a warlord, dictator, and general to the Deviants. This is technically why he's the biggest threat to the Eternals. Kro was born in Lemuria to the race of Deviants, an evolutionary offshoot of humanity. Deviants are cursed with an unstable genetic code causing random physical characteristics to crop up in each newborn child in the race.

He debuted in Red Raven Comics #1 August, 1940 as Rudolph Hendler. However, Kro's first real appearance in the Eternals was in Eternals #1 that was published in July of 1976. He was created by Martin A. Burnstein and the legendary Jack Kirby.

Powers and Abilities

The Eternals villain has a number of traits that were unique among the Deviant race and were beneficial in nature. The most uncanny among these mutations were those granting Kro his longevity and near-indestructibility similar to those of the Eternals. His mental control over his body enables him to maintain a youthful, vigorous physical condition.

Kro also possesses the power of physical malleability, which is common for a Deviant. At will, he can turn most of the tissue on his body to become pliant. This enables him to shape it mentally like putty into different configurations as well as the ability to disguise himself and take the appearance of others.

Aside from being a master military strategist, a superb military commander, a good hand-to-hand combatant, and an expert in the use of Deviant weaponry, Kro can also lift around 800 lbs. Talk about a force to be reckoned with.

Keep in mind that these were all his powers and abilities in the comics and that we've yet to see these on the big screen. Hopefully, the Eternals villain in the film will be just as badass in the film if not more.

All thanks to Jack Kirby

Eternals director Chloe Zhao told Variety about how Jack Kirby basically laid the groundwork for everything they’re doing in Eternals.

“Just like sculpturing, you never want it to end. You just want to keep going until they tell you you can’t keep going anymore….I think everyone in my life close to me knows that I’m maybe working a little too much,” she began. “Yes! This afternoon I’m going back to Disney to work on Eternals. Right after this interview. I’m probably late.”

“Jack Kirby and his imagination, his incredible work, is really the foundation of it. On top of that, there is what Marvel Studios has built, this incredible journey they have going on. And then on top of that is me as a fan of the MCU,” the filmmaker explained. “And then, me as a fan of the genre, but also growing up with sci-fi and manga and fantasy films. And how can we have this big melting pot and cook up something that may just taste a little bit different? It was just an exciting thing; all of us went in wanting to do that. We’ll see.”

Marvel’s Eternals is set to release on October 28, 2021.
