It’s been three years since the Toronto Raptors selected Bruno Caboclo 20th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, but there has been barely any progress that could be gleaned on. To date, Caboclo only holds career averages of 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game across just 23 total games played to show in his NBA resume.

While still only 21 years old, Caboclo has been lagging miles behind a couple of big men drafted ahead of him in Clint Capela and Nikola Jokic. Over the past three seasons, Caboclo has been sent to the G-League and called up to the NBA numerous times, as the Raptors hoped that such moves would help Caboclo fulfill the promise of that general manager Masai Ujiri saw in him before rolling the dice on the Brazilian in the draft.

However, Ujiri now sounds almost apologetic in taking responsibility for bringing the Brazilian to the Raptors’ fold early, as told by TSN Sports’ Josh Lewenberg.

The Raptors aren’t entirely losing hope on Caboclo, however. In fact, they just exercised their team option on him this summer, inking the player to a one-year $2.45 million deal. Caboclo was part of the Raptors 905 team that won the G-League championship back in April, scoring 31 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the title-clinching game.
