Famous novelist Stephen King knows a thing or two about horror. He can certainly recognize the atrocities of the New York Yankees amid their slow start to the 2021 MLB season.

King, who was born in Maine, is a noted Boston Red Sox fan. He is relishing both in Boston leading the American League East as well as the Yankees currently bringing up the rear in the division.

New York's 5-10 start marked its worst opening stretch since 1997. The Bronx Bombers found some solace in a win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, but things have been rather ugly thus far.

Many of the Yankees impact bats are struggling mightily. Shortstop Gleyber Torres has a .515 OPS. Clint Frazier was a breakout star in 2020, but is hitting just .162 with a strikeout rate well over 34 percent to begin the year.

Catcher Gary Sanchez started strong. However, he has just two hits in his last 15 at-bats. While designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is healthy and has three homers, he is hitting .170 with a .613 OPS and 20 strikeouts in 59 plate appearances for the Yankees.

Starting pitching has also been an issue for the Yankees. Gerrit Cole has lived up to his ace status. But newcomers Jameson Taillon and Corey Kluber have provided mixed results, and left-hander Jordan Montgomery has had some homer problems after a brilliant season debut.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has attempted to quell any notion manager Aaron Boone is on the hot seat. But time could be running out for Boone if New York cannot turn its season around in the coming months.

Meanwhile, King can continue to enjoy a Red Sox offense that is putting up runs in bunches.
