Despite entering the 2022 Masters Tournament ranked #1 in the world, not many believed Scottie Scheffler would continue his recent dominance with a victory at Augusta. Those people would have been very wrong. Scheffler played exceptionally well from start to finish, capturing his first Green Jacket and major championship of his young career.

Scheffler, 25, had been on a tear of late. He had won three of the last five tournaments he played in, which vaulted him to the world’s number one ranking. But what he did at the 2022 Masters Tournament was truly amazing.

He built a large lead entering the weekend and never relented. Cameron Smith tried to apply some pressure on Sunday, posting back-to-back birdies on the first couple holes. That had cut Scheffler’s lead to only one shot, but he had the answer. Scheffler holed out for birdie from just off the green on the third hole. He never really looked back from there.

Smith tried making it a race later, but after hitting his tee shot on 12 into the water, it was smooth sailing from there for Scheffler.

Irishman Rory McIlory ended finishing solo second 7-under. He carded a Masters final round record 64 Sunday. McIlroy hit one of the best shots of the tournament on 18, holing out from the bunker for birdie.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest storylines of the tournament, Tiger Woods struggled again Sunday. He shot a final-round 78, his second straight round at 6-over par. Those are the worst two rounds of his Masters career. Woods finished the tournament 13-over par.
