Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says Mavs power forward Kristaps Porzingis is “a bonafide superstar.”

Cuban says Mavs fans should be patient with Porzingis, who is still a little bit rusty after missing the entire 2018-19 season recovering from his ACL tear:

Entering Monday, Porzingis was averaging 20.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists for the Mavs while shooting 42.6 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from beyond the arc and 67.6 percent from the free-throw line.

As he gets his legs underneath him, Porzingis' shooting splits should improve as the season moves along. The Mavs, led by Luka Doncic and KP, are 6-3 on the season.

The Mavs gave Porzingis a five-year, $158.3 million deal this summer. For Dallas to make the postseason in 2019-20, they will need Porzingis and Doncic to play at an All-Star level every night.

Dallas envisions Porzingis and Doncic being Steve Nash-Dirk Nowitzki 2.0. Doncic has already established himself as one of the best passers in the game. Porzingis is going to flourish with Luka in the pick-and roll and pick-and-pop game.

Cuban and the Mavs made the right move by giving Porzingis a max contract this summer. The fact that KP is already putting up 20.0 points per game this early shows he's going to be a very good player for Dallas for the next decade or so.
