With the Dallas Mavericks already assured of missing out on the playoffs this year, they will continue to only give their starters limited minutes in their remaining games. The team has already done that on Friday when it played the San Antonio Spurs, and will once again have the same strategy versus the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

Head coach Rick Carlisle and his staff will look to provide their bench players a chance to gain a lot of experience under their belts, as they will take on the minutes of their starting unit. This will be important to the Mavericks, especially next season, as it will help raise their confidence, in the hopes of getting more production from them.

Wesley Matthews spoke about the Mavs' plan for their last three matches, via Eddie Sefko of Sports Day, and admitted that they are in a tough situation, as they were all expecting to have a postseason appearance.

“It's a tough part of the year for everybody at this point. Everybody had playoff aspirations and that's how we played. We got to play with pride. We have to leave it out there regardless of our situation.

“You have to play meaningful basketball. You have to play against other pros.”

It might not be the most popular decision the team will make, as the fans will only get to watch their best players on the court in limited minutes, but the team will definitely benefit from the move.

Despite their disappointing season, there are still some positive takeaways for them, as they were able to string some wins together, and even gave themselves a chance to make the playoffs even after their very slow start to the year. Should their role players make the most out of their opportunity, it will only make the Mavericks better and have something to build on next season.
