Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts believes Dallas Mavericks rookie swingman Luka Doncic will beat Atlanta Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young for the 2019 Rookie of the Year award.

Both Doncic and Young have been stellar this season and the award is believed to come right down to the wire.

For the Mavs, Luka Doncic is averaging 21.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 33.6 percent from beyond the arc and 70.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The 20-year-old Doncic has 19 double-doubles and five triple-doubles on the season. The Mavs' floor general leads all rookies in points per game.

For the Hawks, Trae Young is putting up 18.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.8 assists per contest. The 20-year-old Texas native is shooting 41.6 percent from the floor, 33.6 percent from the 3-point line and 82.4 percent from the charity stripe.

Young leads all rookies in assists and is eighth in the entire league in assists per game. The guard has 24 double-doubles and one triple-double.

The only reason people are picking Doncic to win the award is because he's been more consistent than Young, who got off to a slow start. If Luka wins, it doesn't take anything away from how well Young played this season.
