Terry Stotts, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, has had enough of the lavish tribute videos and fawning praise for Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks this season.

Stotts, who was an assistant with the Mavs in 2011 when they won the NBA Finals, has worked with Dirk in the past, so don’t think this is pure, unadulterated disrespect from the Blazers coach. It’s more like playful ribbing towards an old friend.

It is notable that Dirk Nowitzki has not been definitive when asked what his plans are after this season. However, with the NBA offering Dirk a “lifetime achievement” spot in the All-Star game, it seems likely that this season is his last, right?

A 14-time All-Star and 12-time All-NBA team member, Dirk has had a storied and legendary career that will go down in the annals as one of the Top 25 players of all time. With 20.8 points per game and 47/38/87 shooting splits over the span of 20 years in the NBA, the German forward has earned some mystery and intrigue in what is perhaps his final season with the Mavs.

Despite playful shade from Terry Stotts, Dirk is a legend. Though he has left the door open slightly for a return, he deserves all the praise he gets — even if he does return next year!
