It seems that cryptocurrencies are starting to make its way to the sporting world, as according to a report by Oliver Knight of Yahoo Finance, the Dallas Mavericks have become the second NBA franchise to allow its fans to use BitCoin as their mode of payment for tickets and other sporting goods.

The Mavs recently agreed to a partnership with BitPay, a cryptocurrency company that already had ties with AT&T Center, who are now allowing their customers to pay their phone bills using BitCoin.

The Sacramento Kings was the first NBA franchise to allow its fans to use BitCoin as their mode of payment during the early days of cryptocurrency back in 2014.

At this point, it is unclear if there will be any NBA team who will follow the Kings and the Mavs. But don't be surprised if big market teams will also start to explore the idea, especially if it will make things easier for their fans.

BitCoin, as well as other forms of cryptocurrencies, have come a long way after once being dubbed as a way for people to purchase forbidden goods via the black market, it is now starting to go mainstream, and the fact that major sports leagues like the NBA are starting to see it as something that's equal to actual cash says something about how it managed to clean its reputation.

If this keeps up, it won't be long before other NBA teams and sporting leagues follow the trend. In five to ten years, cryptocurrency might just be the primary payment method for fans.
