The Dallas Mavericks are bound to use the remaining $5 million left in their salary cap space to re-sign legend Dirk Nowitzki, but they are also reportedly evaluating “how” they would do so, according to Mike Fisher of 247 Sports.

Fisher points out they could use their $4.4 million mid-level exception to re-sign Nowitkzi to his very last deal, only a $600,000 difference, but one that could prove key to signing a veteran for the minimum or converting a two-way player into a full-fledged NBA player.

Nowitzki has made the lion's share of the money during his 20 years in the league and clearly not motivated to return by the financial aspect of it.

While he has already taken plenty of discounts with his last contract, this could be another gesture that could ensure that he goes out on a winning note, potentially even contending for the playoffs with the addition of DeAndre Jordan over a one-year deal and having drafted Luka Doncic after trading with the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 3 overall selection.
