After a first-round exit again from the Los Angeles Clippers for consecutive seasons, The Dallas Mavericks are back on the drawing board heading into the offseason.

Rumors have been swirling around the league that the Mavs have been exploring trade scenarios involving swingman Josh Richardson who has an $11.4 million player option this summer, per Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer.

Dallas has actively explored trade scenarios involving Josh Richardson, sources said, in the event the swingman opts in to his 2021-22 player option. The Mavericks must make their own efforts to clear salary space for a planned spurge in free agency that still appears to prioritize retaining Tim Hardaway Jr. in addition to Dallas' other pursuits.

The Mavericks traded for the Philadelphia 76ers'  Josh Richardson in exchange for sweet-shooting guard Seth Curry during the 2020 NBA draft. The trade was supposedly beneficial for both teams as Richardson would have brought his shooting, wing-play, and defensive prowess to Dallas while the Sixers benefit from Curry's playmaking and 3-point shooting.

However, It is fair to say that the Sixers clearly won this trade as Richardson struggled to adjust and mesh to Dallas' system. The Mavericks expected Richardson to be a complementary piece next to superstar Luka Doncic, but instead, he flopped as he could not find the consistency he once had. He fell out of the starting line-up in the playoffs after some sub-par performances.

per Jake Fischer, The Mavericks are also considered to be a possible landing spot for Jazz guard Mike Conley, although there's a strong belief around the league that Utah will be successful in its attempts to shed salary and offer Conley a substantial deal.

Expect Richardson to be used as a trade piece if ever the Mavs decide to pull the trigger on a potential Mike Conley deal.
