With Yogi Ferrell reneging on his prior commitment to play for the Dallas Mavericks by accepting a separate offer from the Sacramento Kings, the Mavs are now eyeing a replacement in the form of a former player in veteran guard Devin Harris.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, Harris and the Mavs are moving positively towards the direction of a one-year deal.

Free agent guard Devin Harris is in strong talks on one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources tell Yahoo. Sides hopeful to finalize deal in next day.

Harris was last seen on an NBA court in a Denver Nuggets uniform. In 27 games for the Nuggets last season, Harris served asa backup to the team’s younger guards of Jamal Murray and Gary Harris and averaged 8.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 27 games.  Harris originally suited up for Dallas last season, but was shipped to the Nuggets in a three-team trade that also involved the New York Knicks.

Should he ultimately find his way back to Dallas, Devin Harris will likely see minimal minutes on the floor for the Mavs. The team already has the tandem of Dennis Smith Jr. and rookie Luka Doncic plus another newcomer in Jalen Brunson and veteran J.J. Barea.

Harris has played a total of nine seasons with the Mavs with career averages of 8.6 points and 3.0 assists per game with the team.
