Unlike in 2015, the Dallas Mavericks can print out promotional items with DeAndre Jordan’s face on them these days. After all, the Mavs did not just get the word from the big man. They also got his signature on a contract, inking the center to a one-year, $22.9 million deal earlier this summer.

And just before this calendar year ends, Jordan will play his first career NBA game at Staples Center as a member of the visiting team, when he and the Mavs take on the Clippers in Los Angeles on Dec.20.

Will the Los Angeles crowd give Jordan a warm welcome? Or will they be bringing emoji-plastered posters to wave at the big man while he makes a trip to the free-throw line? That remains to be seen, but Jordan has never been a polarizing figure for Clippers fans even though he nearly left the team three years ago. He was generally liked during his time in Los Angeles. That he was the last Clipper to leave among the stars of the previous Clippers era only endeared him more to the team’s fans.

Jordan was selected by the Clippers as the 35th pick overall back in the 2008 NBA Draft before becoming one of the most feared rim protectors and ferocious rebounders in the league over the past decade.

In 10 seasons with the Clippers, Jordan mustered averages of 9.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in 750 games.

Dallas is 0-3 in its last three road games against the Clippers.
