After their impressive Summer league debuts, not a lot has been heard from Dennis Smith Jr. and Markelle Fultz. However, that changed recently, when they appeared on NBA Rookies Flashback Friday, where they were relaxing and playing some video games.

The two dynamic first-year players were asked different questions about issues surrounding the league, but during the time they were competing in a racing game, that the Dallas Mavericks rookie fired a shot at this year’s top overall pick.

With the Philadelphia 76ers losing all their NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, and their lack of success in the past few years, Smith reminded Fultz that it’s not a good feeling to lose, and asked him what’s fun about losing. He had him scrambling for an answer, and the Washington product had to go a different route and talked about Philly Cheese steaks instead.

While Sixers fans may be proud of Fultz for trying to fire back and focused on what their city is more popularly known for, it’s also hard to shake off the fact that Philadelphia has not had a winning season in six years. They have also missed the playoffs the past five campaigns along with being winless in Las Vegas.

However, if there’s any good news for them, the team is expected to be at full strength by October, as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons could both be fully recovered from their injuries by then. The addition of Fultz and J.J. Redick will also give them a very talented backcourt, which adds to the excitement and optimism of their fans.

If everything goes according to plan, and their core can remain healthy, this could be the year they can become a winning group once again, and establish themselves one of the league’s teams of the future.
