The days of Dennis Smith Jr. as a member of the Dallas Mavericks are numbered, and he's motivated to find a new team and a new home.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Mavericks are looking to trade Smith and are in talks with the Phoenix Suns and the Orlando Magic. Though the team has listed him out of the rotation due to an injury, people believe that they have simply placed the second-year man on the trade block.

“Dallas has sat Smith for three straight games with what the franchise has termed a sore back, but there's motivation with the organization and Smith to find a new home for him, league sources said. Smith was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft.”

Smith was considered one of the top first-year players last season, and he was named to the All-Rookie Second Team. He averaged 15.2 points per game, 5.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 29.7 minutes. Smith was part of the starting lineup, and Mavericks fans believed that he would form an important part of the team's future.

But this year, the meteoric rise of Luka Doncic and several injuries have pushed Smith out of the regular rotation. Statistics also reveal that a Smith-Doncic backcourt combo has yielded minimal offensive results.

The good thing for Smith is that he's only in his second year. It will be easier to accept the fact that his stint with the Mavericks didn't work out. Now it's time to find another team that wants him.
