Dennis Smith Jr. of the Dallas Mavericks had an impressive rookie season. His next mission would be to top his first-year performance. Will he be a victim of the sophomore slump?
As reported by Mavs.com's Dwain Price, Smith Jr. is not worried about the slump. If he gets into one, Smith Jr. won't panic. Instead, he'll slowly get into a rhythm until he slips out of it:
“Just don't even worry about it. If I do go into a slump, just acknowledge it, keep working and the things will pick up from there.”
If and when Smith Jr. does get into a slump, Mavs fans need not to worry. This season is bound to be special for the Mavs. Along with their franchise player Dirk Nowitzki and a couple of other veterans, the team will welcome solid new additions in athletic big man DeAndre Jordan and young phenom Luka Doncic.
Last season, the 20-year-old Smith averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He shot 39.5 percent from the field which is pretty low yet expected from young guards like him.
Given their new line up, head coach Rick Carlisle may have a bit of a problem in the point guard spot. Smith Jr., Doncic, J.J. Barea, and Devin Harris all play the one spot. Some may have to move up or play limited minutes. How will these factors affect Smith Jr.'s performance with the Mavs?
