The Dallas Mavericks in the 2011 NBA playoffs rode the wave of momentum to their first NBA title in franchise history.

It was a run that former Mavericks guard DeShawn Stevenson believes that makes them the last true champion that the league has since in the six years, according to

Nick: What would you say to people that say this was the ‘last honest championship?’

DeShawn: I think we had the best team. I feel like there’s not going to be another team running through Dallas. Obviously I want them to have a better team than me because that’s my team and I want them to win so many championships. We had so many different elements, so many different hall of famers; Jason Kidd, Jason Terry. So many role players that actually did their part and to beat a team, a back-to-back NBA Championship team in the Lakers, we swept them. Then come in and everybody was talking about Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and all of them. They were supposed to run through us to win that championship. I just think what happened in that league, we shocked everybody and you won’t be able to top that.

It was quite an impressive run to an NBA title for the Mavericks that saw them take down some formidable opponents along the way that included the reigning back-to-back champion Los Angeles Lakers then beat a team on the rise in the Oklahoma City Thunder.

That said, it was not an easy challenge in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, who were mere minutes away from holding a commanding 2-0 series before the Mavericks mounted a comeback. Dallas was able to win four out of the five final games to capture the NBA title.

What Stevenson may be getting at is that they are a constructed super team like all the ones that preceded them with the likes of the Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Cleveland Cavaliers. It's not shot at any of these organizations but rather highlights the special team that the Mavericks had in the 2010-11 season.
