Only a select few NBA players get a chance to end their career on their own terms, and Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki wishes he could have had a much better showing in his last season with the Mavs.

With fellow first ballot Hall of Famers like Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade getting fitting farewell tours at the end of their respective playing careers, Nowitzki recently admitted that his last year wasn't as fun as he hoped for due to several lingering injuries.

Per Dwain Price of Mavs.com, the 41-year-old German legend clarified that he can no longer play in the league even if given by the Mavs a chance to return this year.

“I wish. My foot is not great, so my health is just not there any more where it needs to be to compete and go up and down (the floor) every day. So from that standpoint last year was already tough,” he shared.

“It took some of the fun away that I was having. It was just kind of not being able to do the moves I want to take, so last year was tough. Even some of the good games I mentioned it right after the season I wasn’t having that much fun. My best game of the year was probably in Golden State, and even that game I shot a fadeaway in the second half and was kind of limping back, so I knew that was going to be the end of the road.”

Nowitzki, of course, will forever be beloved in Dallas after leading the franchise to its first and only title in 2011. He is heralded by most as the best European player to ever suit up in the NBA after spending 21 seasons with the Mavs.

Dirk finished with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds in his final NBA game against the San Antonio Spurs.
