The 2018-19 NBA season may have not been the most ideal ending to forward Dirk Nowitzki's illustrious career. Regardless, he is happy to know that the organization is in good hands with point forward Luka Doncic and big man Kristaps Porzingis.

Although the Mavs have been in the midst of a strenuous rebuild in recent years, there is hope for a potential resurgence with the pairing of Doncic and Porzingis. Nowitzki admits he is excited to see what the future brings for them, via SportsDay:

“I obviously want the best for this franchise, for the city, for this fan base that's been super loyal to me for so long, so I'll be a MFFL. I'll be watching what the guys are doing, I'll be coming to games hopefully next year when I'm around. We do plan to travel a bunch next year, but I do want to see how the Luka (Doncic) and (Kristaps Porzingis) thing is looking. So yeah, I'm anxious to see what the team will look like next year.”

“We've been through a little bit of a down phase just like when I first got here and we weren't very good and then we took for granted winning 50-plus games. Now we've gone through a little down time again, but honestly I think we're moving up. We have the core in place to be good for a long, long time and maybe getting a good veteran player here on a bigger deal might help and hopefully the playoffs are back in the Mavs' future. That's what I'm hoping for. I'll always pay attention to what the Mavs will be doing from here on out for sure.”

There is certainly good reason for Nowitzki to be excited. He has endured his fair share of trials and tribulations throughout his career and was ultimately better for it. While the young duo will undoubtedly go through their rough moments as well, however, there is plenty of hype starting to generate about the new changes in Dallas.

Doncic burst onto the scene this season as one of the few bright spots for this lowly Mavs team. He erased any doubt about his overseas background with his versatile skill set and knack for hitting shots in the clutch. He is now considered to be the potential frontrunner to take home the NBA's Rookie of the Year award.

As a result, Dallas decided to go all in by bringing in another overseas star in Porzingis. Like Doncic, he had taken the league by storm a few years. Prior to the ACL injury, he had easily established himself as one of the premier, young big men in the NBA. Nowitzki is expecting him and Doncic to carry on his legacy with the Mavs for years to come.
