In a recent report from Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic’s revered teammate Dirk Nowitzki believes that the future is bright for Luka – especially considering what he’s done so far in his rookie season.

“There’s really no holes in his offensive game.” Nowitzki said. “Usually some of that stuff he develops later, but for a 20-year old he’s got the in-between game, he’s got the floaters, he’s got the post-up already, he’s using his big body, he’s got all the step-backs from three.”

The Mavs pulled off one of the biggest draft-day heists in recent memory when they traded the rights to Trae Young with the #5 overall pick to the Atlanta Hawks for the rights for Slovenian sensation Doncic. Now, the two players will likely be linked forever.

The then-teenager proceeded to dominate the league with a flurry of step-back jumpers and extremely difficult shots in a way that very few rookies have in NBA history.

Doncic is clearly the leader in Rookie of the Year standings so far this season, with absurd stats that haven’t been seen since Michael Jordan’s rookie year. Doncic is averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists on 55.8 percent true shooting – an incredible line that hasn’t been produced by a rookie since MJ.

Clearly, Nowitzki’s summary is not far off – especially considering Luka just turned 20 years old a week ago. It certainly seems as if the league will be Luka’s to dominate for years to come, and Dirk’s vote of confidence is the cherry on top.
