Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic has easily established himself as one of the most promising, young players in the NBA. His emergence has essentially made him the second coming of small forward Dirk Nowitzki.

Nowitzki admits he may have some trouble beating Doncic one-on-one today. However, according to Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News, the veteran has no doubt he would be the rookie back in his younger days:

Dirk Nowitzki on what a one-on-one match against Luka Doncic would go like? “He’s got a lot of moves in the one-on-one games. He’s got a lot of shots in his repertoire. I’d probably go with him now. But back in the days? No chance, no chance.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Nowitzki's comments. It is no secret that Doncic already boasts a tremendous offensive repertoire. However, the former's skill set makes him tailor-made for a one-on-one matchup.

Nowitzki took the league by storm with his ability to score. Not only was he crafty in the paint but he helped revolutionize the power forward position by being just as deadly from the three-point line. This has made him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenders over the last two decades.

Doncic is certainly no slouch when it comes to scoring either. He also possesses the ability to score from anywhere on the court. However, While he is more than capable of taking over a game individually, his skill set as a playmaker makes him an even better team player. Furthermore, it is difficult to imagine Dominic being able to defend a young Dirk Nowitzki due to the latter's size advantage.
