Dallas Mavericks icon Dirk Nowitzki is just happy that Luka Doncic is committed long-term to the Mavs. After all, he knows very well they got a once-in-a-generation talent in the Slovenian wonderboy.

Nowitzki couldn't hold back his praises for Doncic during his recent session on Twitter Spaces. When asked about his thoughts on Luka's NBA career so far, the German great shared how advanced Doncic is compared to his peers and other players ahead of him in the NBA.

“When we drafted him we didn’t really know what to expect from him. We knew he was good, but we had no idea he would be this good,” Nowitzki said of the new face of the Mavs franchise, via Dallas Morning News.

“How he reads the game, how big he is, his shot is a lot better than we thought. His in between game: the runners, the post ups, he is the full package at such a young age. It’s been incredible to watch for me and also obviously for all the Mavs fans. How much he knows about this game and how he sees the game at an early age, I feel like this usually comes after playing in the league for five, six, seven, eight years but the way he reads the game is on another level. I’m super happy that the Mavs signed him to an extension and we’ll have him around for a long, long time.”

It's not that what Dirk Nowitzki said is something new. After all, everyone knows by now how great Luka Doncic is. It is why he is even one of the favorites alongside Kevin Durant to win the MVP award this 2021-22 season.

However, it is indeed worth noting how Doncic is way ahead in his NBA career. At just 22 years old, he has already achieved a lot and has broken several young gun records to put his name in the same breath as Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Of course winning the championship is the ultimate checkpoint to be among the greats, but with the way he is playing, Luka will certainly have the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage of all sooner rather than later.
