With the Texas Rangers hosting a special Dallas Mavericks night on Thursday, the MLB franchise has selected the perfect person to throw out the honorary first pitch. This comes in the form of none other than recently retired Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki.

Nowitzki has kept relatively quite since his career officially came to a close a couple of months ago. He is obviously enjoying life post-NBA, and is likely spending some private time with his family. Nonetheless, the Rangers' event was something unmissable for Dirk, as he has agreed to come out of retirement to kick off the festivities on Thursday.

After spending 20 marvelous years with the Mavs, Nowitzki has become a household name throughout the city of Dallas. He has also become a big hit in the state of Texas, and this latest honor is certainly testament to this fact.

Nowitzki is a 14-time All-Star and has one season MVP trophy under his belt. However, the highlight of his career has got to be the 2010-11 season wherein he not only bagged the Finals MVP award, but he also led his team all the way to the NBA championship, upsetting LeBron James' Miami Heat.

Dirk boasts career averages of 20.7 points (on 47.1 percent shooting), 1.3 three-pointers, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.8 blocks. He is an absolute shoo-in to the Basketball Hall of Fame, and is unquestionably one of, if not the greatest player the Mavs franchise has ever had.
