Incoming second-year man Jalen Brunson is already working on establishing his chemistry with Kristaps Porzingis of the Dallas Mavericks.

In an interview with Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com, Brunson revealed that he has been working out with Porzingis. For Brunson, he will continue to build some chemistry on and off the court with the 23-year-old Latvian as they prepare for the Mavs 2019-20 campaign.

“We were working out together a couple weeks ago, obviously talking a lot,” the 6-3 guard said of Porzingis. “As we keep getting closer to next season, I really feel like our chemistry is going to continue to build. We’ll become even better friends off the court and that’s going to help us on the court in situations, knowing we can trust one another.”

The Villanova product was drafted 33rd overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Mavs. In his rookie season, he averaged 9.3 points per game, 3.2 assists, 2.3 rebounds, across 21.8 minutes. With Porzingis on the floor, he's expected to be a backcourt partner with fellow incoming sophomore Luka Doncic. Last season, they shared the floor together 30 times and tallied an 8-20 record. They are expected to improve upon it this season.

“It sounds great to me,” Brunson said of a possible backcourt union with Doncic. “Obviously he’s special and does a lot for this team and this organization. But I think what I bring to the table is a person that can control the tempo, control what’s happening on the court.

“I can do basketball things, put the ball in the hoop. But as a leader, a guy who can contribute from a vocal standpoint is something we need and something I can do, for sure.”

Indeed, the upcoming season looks exciting for the new-look Mavs. Brunson is someone you should look out for.
