After their win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale predicts that Luka Doncic will challenge Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki for ‘the greatest European ever to play” the game.

Doncic finished with his fifth triple-double of the season: 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. Once again, the Mavs sophomore displayed his supreme understanding of the game — something that continues to amaze his peers. After all, the Slovenian is just 20-years-old. Who knows how great he'll be once he enters his prime.

In his rookie year, Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle quickly saw Doncic's potential. He turned the then-19-year-old phenom into the team's primary orchestrator. He involved him in several plays where he displayed, more often than not, his ability to stay patient and execute amid pressure.

Some have compared him to NBA icon Larry Bird. It's due to his seemingly unathletic built which he makes up for thru his basketball IQ. But a closer look at Doncic reveals that he is a deceptively quick player with elite-level strength to boot. This makes him a tough coverage not just for smaller guards but for entire team defenses.

Whether or not Fizdale's prediction turns out to be true or not is a matter of wait and see. But so far, Doncic as been exceeding all the expectations thrown at him.
