Dallas Mavericks prized big man Kristaps Porzingis has shed some light on the blockbuster trade that saw him traded by the New York Knicks to the Mavs. The 24-year-old was refreshingly honest, admitting that he does hold some regret about how things panned out with his former team:

“That definitely wasn’t the way I wanted it to happen,” Porzingis said, via Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. “But there wasn’t really an other way how to do it. With all the emotions going on in that moment when I got traded I put out some stupid Instagram stories laying in my bed late at night like, man, I got traded.”

There were a lot of stories that came out following the Porzingis trade, with some outlets saying that the Latvian forced himself out of New York. The 7-foot-3 big man, however, refused to go into detail with exactly what went wrong, and instead stated that it's now all water under the bridge for him:

“We all make mistakes. It wasn’t perfect,” he admitted. “There was no smooth way out of that. It got a little bit ugly but it’s in the past. It’s in the past right now. I have nothing negative to say about that situation. It’s all a learning situation.”

It's great to hear that Porzingis is now looking forward in his career and is no longer being bogged down by what was an unsavory exit from New York. The same, however, cannot exactly be said for the Knicks, who now continue to suffer as one of the worst teams in the league even after beating Porzingis and the Mavs.
