Kristaps Porzingis’ attorney, Roland G. Riopelle, has released a statement on the rape allegations against the Dallas Mavericks forward.

The quote was acquired by Knicks reporter Ian Begley of ESPN.

The Mavs acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks on Jan. 31 in exchange for DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr., a 2021 first round draft pick and a 2023 first round draft pick.

Porzingis won't play this season, as he is still recovering from the ACL tear he suffered last year with the Knicks. The big man averaged 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game last season for the Knicks while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc.

The alleged rape incident occurred on the night Porzingis tore his ACL. We'll have more on this story as updates are given.

The Mavs are hoping Porzingis and Luka Doncic can be the franchise cornerstones for the next decade. This rape allegation is obviously very serious and Dallas and KP need to handle this first before they proceed with basketball.

Porzingis becomes a restricted free agent this summer. The Mavs can match any offer sheet should KP sign one with another team.
