After the Dallas Mavericks had a disastrous first-round exit in the 2021 NBA playoffs, many Mavs fans pointed their accusatory finger at Kristaps Porzingis. The Latvian forward drew criticism from fans and analysts due to his dismal performance.

However, it seems that Porzingis has moved past the screaming fans online. According to KP, he understands the perspective of the Mavs fans getting mad at him, simply because he's been there before. (via Callie Caplan)

Said he sees criticism online, but it doesn't bother him much because he knows how he reacts with passion when he's watching his favorite sports, like MMA, on TV: “I'm that couch expert also.”

Many fans of sports team tend to go off on their players for a bad performance, despite not having nearly enough experience to compare to the said players. These “couch experts” are definitely less knowledgeable than the players they criticize, but they still complain and act as if they know better. Porzingis understands that this is just the nature of sports fans who are invested in their team, especially ones as dedicated as Mavs fans. In their eagerness and desire for the team to succeed, they nitpick the player's performance.

However, Porzingis also has to be self-aware enough to listen to the valid criticisms of him. He's an important piece in the Mavs' title chances, being Luka Doncic's second-in-command. Listening to other's opinions is a healthy way of growing as an individual. Even though Mavs fans are miles behind him in terms of skill, perhaps there's something that Kristaps Porzingis can pick up on from these die-hard fans.
