The Dallas Mavericks have been outstanding to start the new season, and this is thanks in large part to the new superstar duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.

As it turns out, these two have a secret weapon that they use during games. This comes in the form of the Spanish language — something both Doncic and Porzingis speak fluently, and use in order to disguise their conversations from everyone else on the court.

“Both,” Kristaps Porzingis said when asked if he and Luka Doncic talk in English or Spanish, via Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com. “Sometimes, when we don’t want somebody to find out what we’re saying, then it’s Spanish. But most of the time, I’d say it’s English.”

This appears to be working wonders for the pair, as they have been nothing short of dominant in what has been an extremely impressive first quarter of the season.

Porzingis, who finally made his Mavs debut this term following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, is slowly working his way back to his All-Star form from two years ago. It has been a different case for Doncic, however, with the reigning Rookie of the Year currently on an absolute tear. The 20-year-old has been so good that he has forced himself into the MVP conversation at this point in the season.

Porzingis then went on to say that aside from their opponents, he and Doncic also sometimes use Spanish in order to conceal their discussion from Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle.

“The opposite team. Sometimes the coach,” added Porzingis.

This all appears to be all in good fun, though, with Dallas currently proving that their chemistry has been rock solid thus far. There's still a long way to go this season, but it does seem that the Mavs will be serious contenders this term.
