It had been reported in the past that Dallas Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis didn't have the best relationship. Even if “beef” was too strong a word to use in this situation, it's clear they weren't always on the same page.

Now, though, Porzingis says the Mavs stars have been big strides when it comes to their relationship. The key? Communication.

Via Mark Medina of NBA.com:

“We’re communicating more. That’s extremely important,” Porzingis said. “We’re off to a good start. I love playing with Luka. It’s hard to find that type of talent to play with, so you have to appreciate that. He makes the game easier for everybody. He does take a lot of the attention off of everybody.”

This is a great sign for a Mavs team looking to make a splash this season after consecutive first-round playoff exits. Porzingis went further and explained why it was necessary for this change to be made:

“You just have to do it. Somebody has to take the first step,” Porzingis said. “It’s all in the communication. It’s as simple as that. Problems arise when you don’t communicate about things, and you don’t talk about it. So, we’re learning those things.”

Dallas is currently 9-7 on season, good for fifth place in the Western Conference. The Mavs have lost three games in a row with Doncic out of the lineup, and they're hoping their top dog will be ready to return to action from his injuries soon. There's still plenty of room for this team to grow once Doncic and Porzingis are both healthy together.
