Dallas Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis believes that Luka Doncic is ‘playing like an MVP-caliber player' in the young 2019-20 NBA season.

“Luka is playing like an MVP-caliber player right now,” forward Kristaps Porzingis said, per Mavs reporter Dwain Price. “He’s just doing things, penetrating, drawing fouls, being super effective for us, shooting the ball well.

“He’s doing it all for us and I’m happy that he’s able to play at this level right now.”

Porzingis' comments come in after Doncic filled the stat sheet with a triple-double on Monday's win over the San Antonio Spurs. He dropped a career-high 42 points with 11 rebounds and 12 assists.

And it's not just Porzingis who feels that his Mavs teammate should be in the MVP discussion. Various analysts have placed Doncic alongside Houston’s James Harden, Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers as MVP candidates this early in the season.

The 20-year-old Slovenian is aware of the MVP talk surrounding him. Yet his intent is not fixated on raising that trophy. His goal is to rack up those victories.

“I just want to see my team win games,” he said. “I’m all about winning games.”

All in all, it's not going to be a surprise if Doncic is crowned the MVP of the NBA at the end of the year. He is slowly taking over the league. But best believe that he won't be satisfied with that MVP trophy alone. He wants to be a champion.
