Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis will sit out Tuesday's preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Tulsa, but is expected to take the floor on Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

The Mavs are being careful when it comes to trotting out their new star into action on back-to-back nights, instead choosing to save him for the back end of this tilt against the Pistons. The organization is expected to follow this same procedure through the early stretch of the season, given Porzingis missed the entire 2018-19 season with a torn ACL.

Porzingis has looked great in practices and shootarounds, now boasting a buffer physique to go with his already strong perimeter game. His pairing with franchise star Luka Doncic should ultimately decide how far Dallas can jump in this Western Conference after a few years of disappointments during the late Dirk Nowitzki era.

The Mavs had a hard practice on Monday and have revved up their training camp as they approach their preseason opener, which will air on ESPN.

The Unicorn was in the midst of an All-Star campaign in 2017-18 before he tore his ACL going up for a dunk against Giannis Antetokounmpo. Averages of 22.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks were a considerable jump from his first two seasons, and he's now bound to prove himself again coming off a major injury and more than 12 months of therapy and rehabilitation.

The 24-year-old received a max extension of his rookie-scale contract earlier this summer, and he's looking to deliver on this venture with his new team.
