After trying to save the ball, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic almost got hit by the sideline camera. Good thing that the Mavs phenom had lightning-quick reflexes.

Check the clip below to see how close the call was. The camera wasn't slowing down at any rate. Fortunately, Doncic saw the speeding camera from his peripheral and subsequently got out of the way.

It's hard to imagine what would happen if the camera actually hit Doncic in the face. Maybe he would've suffered a little scratch? Or maybe a concussion that would force him to miss some key games? Who knows?

It's safe to say that Mavs fans collectively held their breath during that close encounter. After all, the Slovenian is the best player on the squad. In just his second year in the league, he has entered both the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player talks.

Before the season was suspended in March, Doncic was averaging 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists across 33.3 minutes per outing — all of which are improvements from his stellar rookie campaign. Along the way, he has helped transform the Mavs into a playoff team, or at least very close to being one.

Their record stands at 40-27 for seventh in the West. They have yet to clinch a playoffs spot, but it's very likely that they'll make it through. With that, it will be the first time since the 2015-16 season that the Mavs would make the postseason.

Whether they get booted out early or make a deep run, some playoffs action will help Luka Doncic and the Mavs in the long run.
