After an extraordinary 30-point triple-double in the Dallas Mavericks' loss to the Chicago Bulls, Luka Doncic branded himself as “selfish” as he took ownership of the loss.

The Mavs entered the matchup against the Bulls severely short-handed, missing Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Richardson, Jalen Brunson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell.

Despite being undermanned, Doncic was able to make history once again with a monster triple-double. His 36 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists made him only the fourth player in NBA history to have a triple-double of at least 35-15-15, joining the likes of Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain and James Harden.

Unfortunately, outside of Doncic, the Mavs were unable to get anyone cooking. Luka didn’t see anything positive about the game and his play because of the end result–a 117-101 win for the Bulls.

“That’s on me, the game,” Doncic said during his post-game media availability, pre Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “I would say I was being selfish a little bit because I had 30 points in the first half.

Doncic was able to score 30 of his 36 points in the first half, including 20 in the second quarter. Despite all of that, the Mavs found themselves down double digits going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Mavs made multiple runs to cut the lead down to 10 but failed to ever get over the hump. In those instances, Doncic failed to make a play, either settling for a long jumpshot or turning the ball over.

“That wasn’t me in the second half,” Luka Doncic said of his play. “I’ve got to do way better than that. That’s just on me. I shouldn’t be doing this.”

Granted, Doncic dished out 15 assists and carried the Mavs most of the game, but for a player of his stature–with the expectations he has–the little things are of importance.
