The much-hyped Slovenian wonder kid Luka Doncic will finally be making his NBA debut with the Dallas Mavericks this upcoming 2018-19 season. His all-around brilliance and outstanding playmaking will create headaches for opposing defenses.

In a recent ESPN roundtable discussion with his fellow top rookies, Doncic to LeBron James as the person he is most excited to play against.

“It's definitely LeBron James because he was my idol. He is my idol. That will be fun.”

Unsurprisingly, LeBron was also his pick for next season's Most Valuable Player award.

“LeBron James. I think it's going to be tough for him [in Los Angeles]. They're a young team, but it's still LeBron.”

Doncic was a revelation for Real Madrid in the EuroLeague and Liga ACB. His averages of 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists reflect shadows of a LeBron-type do-it-all style of game. It's really no wonder why he thinks so highly of the four-time MVP.

In a scouting report by Nick Prevenas for NBADraft.net, Doncic was praised for his on-court leadership.

“Are you an NBA head coach? Doncic is ready to run your offense. Not in three years. Not as the captain of your second unit. Not for fits and starts after the All-Star break. Right now. Day one.”

“Doncic knows where the pieces on the board want to move before everyone else has had time to survey the scene.”

With backcourt mare Dennis Smith Jr more of a slashing and scoring point guard, Doncic will assume playmaking abilities with Smith expected to take more off-ball scoring opportunities. Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki will be waiting for Doncic's kick-outs, while newly acquired center DeAndre Jordan will be running down the lane for the prized rookie to feed him with easy alley-oops.

The Mavs will be a fun team to watch again next season as Smith and Doncic start the first year of their dangerous backcourt partnership.
