There's little doubt that Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has an extremely bright future ahead of him. Mavs owner Mark Cuban seems to think so, to the extent that the billionaire executive claims that Doncic could potentially overtake the legendary Dirk Nowitzki as being the greatest Mavs player of all time.

“Could he [surpass Dirk]? Yeah, because I think the game has changed enough, it’s more wide open today than it was when Dirk first got to the league,” Cuban claimed, via Gerald Bourget of Fansided. “So he’s got that advantage, but he could win MVPs, he could win a championship.”

Although a bit ambitious and rather premature, its actually not difficult to get on board with Cuban here. From what we've seen from the Mavs' sophomore sensation, it's hard to deny that this kid is indeed bound for greatness.

Cuban went on to say that he firmly believes that the Mavs' all-time great wouldn't mind this.

“I hope so, and I know Dirk would hope so too,” added Cuban. “They’re good friends too, so I think they support each other either way.”

Cuban is playing a bit of mind games here. By coming out with this high-praise statement, he is assuming that Doncic will be sticking with Dallas for the long haul. The 21-year-old signed a rookie-scale contract a couple of years ago, which will keep him with the Mavs for at least up to the 2021-22 campaign. Beyond that, however, is still a mystery at this point. In order for Doncic to at least have a shot at Nowitzki's throne, the reigning Rookie of the Year will have to also inherit a shade of Dirk's unwavering loyalty.
