Dallas Mavericks rookie phenom Luka Doncic has made 16 stepback 3-pointers this season entering Monday, which is more than the entire 2018 rookie class combined (13), according to Second Spectrum.

Luka Doncic is the early frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award. The 19-year-old has guided the Mavs to a 13-11 record and is putting up stellar numbers, averaging 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from beyond the arc and 78.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Over the weekend against reigning MVP James Harden and the Houston Rockets, Luka Doncic showed off his stepback prowess and clutch gene for the entire world to see:

This kid is special. Many were wondering what type of impact Luka Doncic would have in the NBA and he is showing that he is the real deal. His IQ level is off the charts and the maturity level he shows on the court for being such a young player is fascinating.

One of the knocks on Luka Doncic was he was going to have trouble creating separation against NBA talent due to his lack of quickness. Turns out, his stepback is so good that he doesn't need any crossovers to get his jump shot off.
