The highly anticipated matchup between Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson ended in favor of the Dallas Mavericks, with the Mavs winning the game 137-133 in overtime.

Doncic led his team with a masterful triple-double of 30 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists, becoming the fifth player in NBA history to record ten 30-point triple-doubles in a season.

Making this feat all the more impressive, Doncic broke Jason Kidd’s franchise record of 21 triple-doubles only five days after his 21st birthday.

The young Slovenian superstar did not do all the work, however, with Kristaps Porzingis pouring in 34 points and 12 rebounds. With this, the foreign duo became the fourth Mavs pair to record 30-plus points and 10-plus rebounds in a game.

They are also the first Mavs duo to do it in the past 12 years.

Every possession mattered in the tightly contested matchup. Dallas’ team performance on the defensive end complemented Doncic’s offensive efforts, with Porzingis and Maxi Kleber each recording five blocks. The team ended the game with 13 blocks, nine more than New Orleans.

Meanwhile, Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson did not disappoint. The first overall pick ended his first back-to-back with 21 points and six rebounds –continuing his now 13-game streak of 20 or more points.

All-Star Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 27 points, but he foule out in overtime. Lonzo Ball also had a solid outing with a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double. In addition, the young point guard dished out six assists.

With these results, the Mavs now have a comfortable six-game lead with the eighth-seeded Grizzlies. The loss has a much bigger impact on the playoff-chasing New Orleans, who remain on the 12th-seed at 24-38.
