Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis get playoff advice from JJ Barea

JJ Barea, Kristaps Porzingis, Luka Doncic, Mavs

Dallas Mavericks All-Stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis will be making their playoff debuts at Disney World once the eight seeding games end. Mavs veteran JJ Barea, who has played in a bevy of postseason matches, has some advice for the two stars.

The Mavs were in seventh place in the Western Conference standings before the season was suspended in March due to COVID-19. Dallas hasn’t won a playoff series since 2011, so fans of the franchise are looking forward to seeing if Doncic and Porzingis can snap that drought at Disney World.

The only way the Mavs are going to go on a deep postseason run is if Doncic and Porzingis play like superstars. Both players are capable of doing so, but playoff basketball if a lot more physical than the regular season. The court also shrinks since half-court scoring is at a premium and refs tend to swallow their whistles more.

It’s no doubt going to be exciting to watch these two youngsters make their respective NBA playoff debuts, but KP and Luka have to be ready for the rigorous play, both mentally and physically.

In his first season with the Mavs after beginning his NBA career with the New York Knicks, Porzingis is averaging 19.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 42.0 percent from the field, 34.9 percent from beyond the arc and 77.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Doncic, meanwhile, is putting up 28.7 points, 9.3 boards and 8.7 assists in his second season in the NBA. He is also shooting 46.1 percent from the floor, 31.8 percent from the 3-point line and 75.2 percent from the charity stripe.
