The Dallas Mavericks have decided to waive center Willie Cauley-Stein and are going to sign Marquese Chriss to a new two-year deal.

Cauley-Stein has not played many games this year for the Mavs as he's only appeared in 18 of their contests. In his time on the court, he was not playing to what Dallas was hoping for as he averaged 1.9 points per game and 2.1 rebounds.

This was a smart decision from the Mavs' perspective because Chriss has been playing some good basketball this season. In his 12 games with the Mavs this season, he is currently averaging 6.8 points per game with 3.9 rebounds. Chriss has put up these numbers in only 11.8 minutes.

Dallas has been playing good basketball this season. They are currently the fifth seed in the Western Conference and have a 23-19 record. There are clearly areas that they are going to need to improve on if they do want to compete for an NBA title. If they can make the right moves at the trade deadline, they will be sitting in a good position.

It will be interesting to see what moves the Mavs do decide to make this trade deadline because they desperately need somebody to pair next to Luka Doncic. This was the first move from the Mavs during this season. It is to be expected that there are going to be many more along the way.

Willie Cauley-Stein was a former lottery pick back in 2015. It would make sense if other teams are going to take a chance on him.
